In the Press

“It is this constant analysis of her own work, this searching, this stretching of both mind and technical capabilities that has led not only to a greater maturity in her abstracts but also to the simultaneous development of several different themes. In the past Nasser found vaguely unsatisfactory, wanting one particular style to be her own. Slowly, however she has come to realize that this lateral method of working is her style, her wide open mind capable of throwing out many different images at the same time making her work exciting and stimulating.

A further extension of these paintings are more calligraphic “Variations” in which Nasser uses for the first time in her work curving, sensuous lines that move unflattering over their pale backgrounds, echoing one another and creating deep reflection.”

Self-examination results in greater maturity in the work of Hind Nasser, The Jordan Times, 1984

“A prolific and dedicated artist, Hind puts herself in a certain frame of mind to produce such works.

Her profuse colors create a special magical and mysterious impact that touches our soul.

Every new painting is an adventure; the result is unpredictable. Her hand is guided by a great emotional energy and an extraordinary insight that produces these big and small works.”

Ayyad Al Nimir, Al Dustour Newspaper, 1986

“Unafraid of change, Nasser is an artist who constantly struggles to move forward producing works often very different in character which are nevertheless unified by her indestructible and innate sense of color. These many different approaches to her art have now become the hallmark of her, the end result being that her exhibitions are never predictable or boring.

Essentially quite complex, Nasser’s work is often inaccessible. Time will alter your perception of what she is achieving, instant judgments just cannot be made. Her work has the ability to stop you in your tracks and force you to rethink your own ideas. And this is all the more impressive when one knows how Nasser paints. Working at great speed on several ideas at once, Nasser, oblivious or rather invulnerable, to comments and criticisms produces new paintings that confound her admirers and alike leaving them to struggle along behind, only to catch up with her later.”

Exhibition reveals Nasser as innovative and bold artist, The Jordan Times, 1988

Her profuse colors create a special magical and mysterious impact that touches our soul.

“In her continuous search and perseverance she maintains her interest in nature. She condenses it, with its living and non-living creatures, into pure visual gestures and connotations. This is what forms her individuality and style.

You can always detect in her flowing lines some organic happenings and notice that color replaces them.

The underlying factor that helps her to move easily from one series to another, including the change in her mode of expression, is always the organic element that rebounds and the rhythm of the universal vocabulary of art.”

“This dauntless and daring artist is in constant movement. The way she handles her lines, surfaces, and forms give each a whole new visual impact which represents her style.

Her forms are not accidental. They surge from deep observation of nature and space, which she succeeded in capturing and reproducing, liberating her work from straight forward interpretation.

The empty spaces dominate some works, others are filled up completely. She uses, at times, sensitive intertwined lines like those of a symphony.”

“The decoration (chevalier de l'ordre des arts et des lettres) granted by the French government and presented by their ambassador HE Mr. Casa to Hind Nasser, sets an example for Jordan and Jordanian artists and motivated our established and young artists alike. There is honesty in the work and a continuous search to create the new and to renew.”

“The work of Hind Nasser shows a lot of energy and enthusiasm, she chooses her colors, whether primary or mixed with much ease and uses them to express her elegant, undulated, and flowing lines.

The onlooker stops trying to discover her approach of borrowing from nature. He finds himself spontaneously with nature and its changes, that lead him to unify with the universe.”

“Nasser’s people assume gigantic stature, assert themselves, live life to the fullest, or become tiny specks, microcosms in the grand scheme of things.

The well-defined bodies gradually seem to dissipate in further compositions, ultimately becoming abstract images: life disintegrates to nonexistence transformed into the cosmic dust the world is made of.

Common, familiar themes are obvious; family, motherhood, every-day activities, but on a cosmic scale, the viewer is witness to the process of creation, of life that gets transformed, of rebirth and regeneration.”

Ica Wahbeh

The Jordan Times, 2011

“Nasser’s works are a rendition of the quintessential woman, the mysterious, resilient, strong creature that is often overlooked, downtrodden or marginalized.

The artist’s style changes over time, but not dramatically. From early sketches to today’s portraits, the unitary thread is the woman – mother, child, sister, friend – a universe in herself that awaits discovery, understanding, love and appreciation.”

“Hind’s work is a continuous process of searching, combined with feelings. The work gives pleasure to the eye of the onlooker and makes him share the freedom of their creator.

During the past 40 years or so, Hind could have studied academically but she objected to that after studying under her mentor the artist Princess Faherelnissa Zeid.

The latter daring approach launched Hind in the world of colors and abstract before the academic which required a lot of perseverance on her part.

Her strong and confident brush stroke makes her work yield to her will and vision.

What we have to evaluate is the end result of the work, and not the academic certification that lies behind it.”

Zulaikha Abu Reisheh

Alghad Newspaper, 2017

“She graduated from two important schools, the one is that of the international artist Fehrelnissa Zeid and the other is Nature. Both impacted and are continuously embedded in her thinking and her love for art and beauty, still she rebelled against both by creating her own world.”
